He moved to Chicago in 2016 earning his Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 2020. He enjoys writing, cooking, playing basketball, lifting weights, and anything that has to do with the outdoors. He's married to his beautiful wife, Michelle, and they recently welcomed a new member into their family, Kato, a german shepherd puppy.

Shirley Park
Children’s Ministry Director (Lisle)

Shirley's been our Children’s Ministry Director since 2018. She lives in the northwest suburbs with her husband, Joe. Whether it’s helping out with Vacation Bible School or teaching at a local faith-based summer school, Shirley's always had a heart for children and children’s ministry. She's vocationally a public school teacher, teaching 5th grade in the Oak Park area.

Yun Lee
Children's Ministry Director (City)

Yun and her family have attended TRC since 2017. She's happily married to Seong and they're blessed with three wonderful children. She's always loved working with children and has an educational background as a middle school math teacher. She's an optimist, hopeless romantic, and enjoys shopping, scrapbooking and board games when time allows.

Chris Joung
Youth Ministry Director

Chris grew up and currently lives in the northwest suburbs. He attended UIUC for a Bachelors in Math and Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. After teaching in Urbana for a couple years, he moved back up to the suburbs in 2020 and currently works as a Math Teacher at Niles North High School. In his free time, Chris enjoys playing basketball and working out.

elders

Eunseok Choi

Eunseok first joined TRC in 2012 and served as a life group leader in both Lisle and City campuses. He was ordained as a ruler elder in 2020. He's seen a spiritual need for young adults in Chicagoland and how God was graciously using TRC as a place for spiritual growth. Since he moved to the City campus in 2019, Eunseok has spent time learning city culture and getting to know new people. He's also an avid soccer fan and enjoys playing and watching soccer with his friends.

Jimmy Phillip

Jimmy began attending TRC in 2011 after moving from Texas and was ordained as a ruler elder in 2020. He's been encouraged by how God has grown TRC and is thankful to serve alongside many in the church. He's reminded of how God uses relationships to encourage and challenge those within the church as we grow closer to Him. When he's not buying flowers, Jimmy enjoys doing outdoor activities, especially on the water, and visiting new places with his wife, Jane, and two boys. His family is currently in the process of adopting their daughter from South Korea.

Lawrence Chen

Lawrence has attended TRC since 2011 and was ordained as a ruling elder in 2020.  Being part of the TRC community has been integral to his faith journey and also his wife Dianne and three sons, Josiah, Samuel, and Timothy. As part of the session, he serves as a liaison to the diaconate and is part of the finance ministry. Notably, Lawrence was formerly a TRC softball player when the team won 0 games each season, but has since retired (the team started winning thereafter—what an odd coincidence). During his spare time, he's trying out new recipes on the backyard grill and playing sports with his boys.

Jeff Ma

Joan Lee

Before becoming a deacon in 2020, Ben was a life group leader and served on the Welcoming Team in the city. Before that, he also helped out with Children's Ministry. He finds joy in being able to serve the church to tangibly help in the areas of need for the Session and congregation. Ben used to play ice hockey growing up, but these days has been obtaining a growing interest in golf and chess.
Jeff joined Redemption in 2011, a year after it was planted. Before becoming a deacon in 2020, he served as both life group leader and coach. He graduated from U of I with an Electrical Engineering degree and currently lives in the southwest suburbs. Outside of work, Jeff enjoys traveling, board games, grilling, smoking, stir-frying and, once in a while, baking. He's humbled to be a part of the first group of deacons and is very excited for the future direction of The Redemption Church.
Joan's been part of Redemption since 2010 as one of the founding members and became a deacon in 2021. For her, serving as a deacon means caring for people both inside the church and in the community, and in doing so, extending the love and compassion of Christ to others. Joan and her loving husband Jim live in the west suburbs. She works in healthcare, and enjoys connecting with family and friends, good coffee, and taking walks.
