Abuse protocol
Over the past few years we’ve seen horrific stories of sexual assault, harassment and abuse dominate the headlines of Christian periodicals and news outlets. As we have seen these stories unfold, one common denominator has been the silence surrounding these issues in ecclesiastical contexts.
By God’s grace, we want to be a safe place where the abused can be heard and find justice and mercy. Please find resources below.
TRC Abuse Reporting Protocol
Our abuse reporting protocol was created under the supervision of a licensed family and trauma therapist (Beth Chung, MS, LMFT). Submissions will be initially received and handled by a team of caring leaders (males and females). Depending on the severity of the report, the pastoral team / legal authorities may get involved.
The Presbyterian Church in America’s Ad Interim Committee on Domestic Abuse and Sexual Abuse
The Presbyterian Church in America’s (PCA) Ad Interim Committee (AIC) on Domestic Abuse and Sexual Abuse (DASA) presented their report at the 49th General Assembly.
The heartbeat behind this non-binding document is to help churches in becoming “a sanctuary for victims, a training ground to prevent assault, and a facilitator of emotional, spiritual, and physical healing.” (PCA AIC DASA Report, p. 2402)
This report has guided much of our protocol, along with professional consultation from trauma-informed therapists.
